Carrières des Lumières
Baux-de-Provence
A former limestone quarry, seven thousand square metres of walls fourteen metres high, and paintings projected from floor to ceiling, set to music. You don’t tour the Carrières, you sit down: the show runs on a loop and you stay as long as you like. It is 14 °C inside all year round, even in high August — bring a jacket.
A place we love to recommend to our guests during their stay at Mas de l'Herne, in Eygalières.

The programme
Two exhibitions share the 2026 season, from 13 February 2026 to 3 January 2027 — and they alternate depending on the day of the week. Check the calendar before setting off: landing on Picasso or on the ocean floor is not quite the same outing. Allow an hour on site, screenings included.
The 2026 exhibitions
- Picasso, Art in Motion Long programme, around forty minutes: from La Célestine to Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, through to Guernica.
- Frida Kahlo, Heart and Soul Short programme, a counterpoint to Picasso — self-portraits, symbols, colour. Included in the same ticket.
- Ocean Close to a hundred marine species projected across the walls, from the great white shark to the blue whale. Children never quite get over it.
